hi.

last year in my school the top mark receieved in a subject was

98 - MX2
100 - MX1 (four people in fact)
97 - phys
96 - eng advanced
96 - economics

i heard that no-one receieves 100 in the state for physics. while 3u maths gives out a lot of high marks (4 100's just from my school). Why don't the they the person who comes first a 100 in some subjects?

also, do they tend to give out many marks 96-100 for economics? for example what mark could u expect if you came 20th in the state.

The top aligned marks in the state for the courses you listed are:
Mathematics Extension 2 - 99
Mathematics Extension 1 - 100
Physics - 98
English (Advanced) - 99
Economics - 99

The reason that there are no 100 marks in most of these courses is because no one has achieved full RAW (unscaled) marks in that year. In order to get a 100 as an aligned mark, the RAW mark must be 100. Therefore, in Mathematics Extension 1, there have been several students who scored 100 as their aligned mark because their RAW mark was 100. Either way, the maximum aligned mark for those courses listed above in 2005 all corresponded to a maximum scaled mark of 100 in each course anyway.
