May I ask, what should we expect as a question to be based on? I am studying on the basis of many interpretations, not on individual characters or themes... as past HSC and trials reflect.

I just don't want to get caught out... any suggestions/help!

Im doing the same as you both and i think you'll be fine
(dont worry what trial questions are like because BOS
and schools are different...)

most times even when they do mention a specific character or theme...
like in 2002? Something about mysogyny, they still give you room
to write about your own interpretation, so aslong as you answer that
specific question quickly and then prove your point you should be fine

or atleast thats what im hoping for, lol

I dont do Lear but...
Posting this on behalf of a friend

He is doing it based on themes and productions

However, not focusing on characters and readings

Problem is that everyone got it taught differently

So there is a chance some people will be screwed.

I know some school who didnt even look at any productions, only focused on the text and readings

So yeah differences...

I think most people when they chose a production they add that
productions reading anyway, so if you do that you probably have most
of the syllabus covered

the very beginning of the syllabus talks about textual integrity and
reception over time... even if they ask about a specific theme/ reading
you'll need to answer the basics aswell to get a high mark

I think thats too much to ask if they force you to stage a feminist reading
I doubt it'll happen since it'll completely take away the individuality of every
essay...[it'll make it harder to mark, and more boring for them]

hmm ive done 4 readings with supporting production elements :| (eg: Domestic reading supported with elements of Eyre production) .. hoping that they dont pull a CSSA on us and specify the character, however even if they do, i feel the plays context will play a major element.

I'm going with a feminist interpretation, 2 productions (eyre and brook), and a few references to reception over time (i.e. nahum tate, the tale of the king of paphlagonia etc.) and yeah. Really hoping they dont ask anything specific on themes or specific characters. Ill be screwed if they do.

good, confidence went up alittle... i posed this question to my teacher his reply was:

Look at the different interpretations but use characters and themes as examples - context.

Also consider language, staging, characters .themes in light of context
