Each year the Sydney Morning Herald publishes this with the release of the HSC results. For the 2010 list, first 3 were Ruse, Malek Fahd & North Sydney Boys. What I'm not clear about is:

1) is it based on MX2, MX1, Maths Advanced or General or all of these

2) if based on all, is General given same weight as MX2

3) what happens to schools with exclusively or predominantly General

They are based on all levels of mathematics (i.e. General, 2 Unit, Ext1 and Ext2) and each exam is counted as one. Yes, this does give schools who have predominately General students some 'advantage' (though it is no different from the issue of schools artificially boosting their rankings by forcing students to take low level subjects), but this rarely happens especially near the top end because less people achieve band 6 in General Mathematics (around 2000) compared to say 2 unit Mathematics (around 3000) which has about half the total candidature of those doing General. This kind of implies in a very flawed statistical sense that it is 'easier' to get in the top band for 2 unit Mathematics than General lol...

Either way, Ruse is continually the dominant school in mathematics. In 2010 (if I remember correctly), out of 314 exam attempts, 300 scored in the top band. That is a seriously stunning 96%...
