I know jack all about maths beyond ext 2 but I really find this interesting cos I know it somehow relates to special relativity and how space time bends near mass and how straight lines arent straight anymore... ahaha im such a noob.

Anyway, what are the physical applications of this? if any...

just curious, thanks.

haha well if u shoot a projectile from the top of a mountain, at a speed higher than orbital velocity then the shape is of a hyperbola ;)

and if its lower, it outlines the shape of an ellipse

haha.. newaiz.. that didn really answer ur question

Well, obviously spherical geometry you can use for measuring distances on earth.
Theoretically, on unit sphere, if you have triangle with angles a,b,c
Then area(triangle)=a+b+c-Pi
And the negative of the expression is the area in hyperbolic geometry.
