I'm not particularly in-the-know with the HSC marks and the system they use to work out marks anmd scaling and what not.
but if a person is ranked first, and performs badly - do they still get the top mark, because they are ranked number one?

this is what someone told me - just wondering what happens..

They receive the top assessment mark (the highest result someone achieves in the hsc exam) BUT everyone receives their own exam mark. The HSC mark is an average of these two.
