All it requires is yes or no answers, how easy can it get?

Political Science Survey Questions:

States are required to give annual test for grades 3-8 and at least one test for high school grades. These test measure how well students are learning and highlights the strengths and weakness in different school systems. The following questions have to do with the standards outlined in the No Child Left Behind Act.

1. Have you heard about the no child left behind act?

2. Do you feel you are well informed on the No child Left Behind Act?

3. By 2014 all students must be at the proficient level according to the state standards. Do you believe this is possible?

4. Do you think that it is reasonable to test children from grades 3-8 annually, but only test the high school grades once?

5. Do you believe that testing in the areas of reading and math are a sufficient assessment of a child’s learning?

6. The Standards set forth are determined by the states, this means that the level of standards vary from state to state. Do agree that this is a fair assessment for all students?

7. Do you believe that it’s fair that the states set the minimum levels of improvement that the school districts and school must achieve?

8 Do you think that it’s fair that all students to be assesses regardless of their disabilities.

9.Do you think it is necessary to have “highly qualified teachers” That is, to have teachers that have at minimum a bachelors degree and are competent in the area of their subject.

10. The establishment of “highly qualified” teachers, in no way means an increase in pay. So even though these new teachers have gone though more education and are “highly qualified” they do not get paid more than previously. Is this fair?

11. Teacher aides are now required to be “highly qualified.” Even though they aren’t teaching the class and are there for support, they are now required to have at minimum, 2 years of college or pass a rigorous standard of quality through local or state assessment. Do you agree with this?

12. Schools are now required to keep a report of school safety; this includes a report of incidents, drugs, and violence. Is it a good idea to keep a running log of such statistics?

13. Children who are placed into “persistently dangerous schools” have the option to be moved into another school. Is this solution better than making the school safer in the first place?

14. Under the act, the state must provide transportation for a child when the parents wish to exercise their right to transfer their child due to a school not having “adequate improvement” or by being a “persistently dangerous school.” Is it right for the state to have to provide the transportation?

15. Is it fair that if a school does not meet this minimum level of improvement the school board in conjunction with the government, steps in and instates a two-year plan?

16. When a school fails to make adequate yearly progress for a fifth year its possible that most, if not all of the school staff will be replaced. Do you believe this is right?

17. Since the children must now pass a test each year in order for the teachers to retain their jobs, do you believe this assessment causes teachers to teach to the test?

18. Do you agree with that taxpayer dollars should only go to states that have standards and expectations for improving schools or teaching a solid academic curriculum?

19. The No Child Left Behind Act calls for mandatory parent involvement. Should This Be a requirement?

20. Do you feel the standards set forth by this act are over difficult for students to achieve?

I hope I'm not too late with this.. I have been AWOL from BOS for a few weeks due to assignments etc... I'd be interested to know what other people's thoughts are..

1. Have you heard about the no child left behind act? Yes

2. Do you feel you are well informed on the No child Left Behind Act? No

3. By 2014 all students must be at the proficient level according to the state standards. Do you believe this is possible? No

7. Do you believe that it’s fair that the states set the minimum levels of improvement that the school districts and school must achieve? No

8 Do you think that it’s fair that all students to be assesses regardless of their disabilities. Can I abstain on this one?? Without getting up on my soapbox, I think it depends entirely on the wishes of both the student and parents of the student wth a disability, and the nature of said disability...

9.Do you think it is necessary to have “highly qualified teachers” That is, to have teachers that have at minimum a bachelors degree and are competent in the area of their subject.Yes

10. The establishment of “highly qualified” teachers, in no way means an increase in pay. So even though these new teachers have gone though more education and are “highly qualified” they do not get paid more than previously. Is this fair?No

15. Is it fair that if a school does not meet this minimum level of improvement the school board in conjunction with the government, steps in and instates a two-year plan?Yes

16. When a school fails to make adequate yearly progress for a fifth year its possible that most, if not all of the school staff will be replaced. Do you believe this is right? No, the staff should undergo further training and professional development.. fix the problem within the staff, don't just ship them off somewhere else to cause problems.. (oops on the soapbox again)

17. Since the children must now pass a test each year in order for the teachers to retain their jobs, do you believe this assessment causes teachers to teach to the test?No (again, this depends on the teaching style.. there are a lot of other ways of assessing a student's acheivement than with a test

18. Do you agree with that taxpayer dollars should only go to states that have standards and expectations for improving schools or teaching a solid academic curriculum?Yes, if I'm paying the taxes, I want to know that they're being used thoughtfully

19. The No Child Left Behind Act calls for mandatory parent involvement. Should This Be a requirement?YES!! Teaching see children for 6 hours/day IF THAT!! Parents need to take an interest in their child's education!!!!

20. Do you feel the standards set forth by this act are over difficult for students to achieve?I can't answer that becuase I don't know enough about the Act...
