What's the deal with it? Is it a good idea to join now (free student membership)?

They haven't told us much about it at uni, except

"You're all members, right?"

it doesn't really make much difference because it expires in a year and really, the only cool thing that my friend got was a card.

they're good to contact if you want to touch base with companies for industrial training. they give me a list of heaps companies which employ students.

and i also have a space for memberships on my resume and put IEAust on it cause it fills up space :D

it doesn't expire in a year really
they issue a new card each year :)

IEAust, becomes more benefical as you near graduation -- they organise seminars etc etc..and you get free online access to their magazine -- which can come in handy for assignments.
and yeah.. as laney said...
it makes good use in your resume :p
