Here Is The List Of Major Nominees of the 2000's:

Select Your Vote. No Ties. (* denotes Oscar winner in that category)

BEST PICTURE:

2000 - Would've voted for In The Mood For Love as the best movie of the year, followed by Amores Perros, followed by Momento, followed by Requiem for a Dream, followed by Traffic. Quite a few good movies this year, but Traffic was the only one that got nominated :S.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Erin Brockovich
Chocolat
Gladiator *
Traffic

2001 -I'd have voted for..Spirited Away, Mulholland Drive, AI, then Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. If there was year LotR deserved best film, this was it.

Moulin Rouge!
A Beautiful Mind *
In The Bedroom
Gosford Park
Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

BEST ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE

2000 -Tony Leung in In The Mood for Love, but out of these Geoffery Rush for Quills. Isn't it interesting that none of the 5 nominated best actor leads matched the 5 nominated best pictures.

Javier Bardem (Before Night Falls)
Ed Harris (Pollock)
Russell Crowe (Gladiator) *
Tom Hanks (Castaway)
Geoffrey Rush (Quills)

2001 - In hindsight..2001 was a bad year for movies, and these 5 best actor nominations is indicative. I'd say Sean Penn, he deserved it more for I Am Sam than for Mystic River.

Russell Crowe (A Beautiful Mind)
Denzel Washington (Training Day) *
Tom Wilkinson (In The Bedroom)
Will Smith (Ali)
I Am Sam (Sean Penn)

BEST ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE- Ellen Burstyn for Requiem for a Dream, followed by Maggie Cheung for In the Mood for Love. Julia Roberts didn't deserve this by a looong shot. Probably the worst of the 5.

2000 -

Julia Roberts (Erin Brockovich) *
Laura Linney (You Can Count On Me)
Ellen Burstyn (Requiem For A Dream)
Juliette Binoche (Chocolat)
Joan Allen (The Contendor)

2001 - Judi Dench for Iris, Halle Berry came close though.

Nicole Kidman (Moulin Rouge!)
Halle Berry (Monsters Ball) *
Renee Zellwegger (Bridget Jones's Diary)
Judi Dench (Iris)
Sissy Spacek (In The Bedroom)

BEST ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

2000 -Benicio Del Toro

Benicio Del Toro (Traffic) *
Albert Finney (Erin Brockovich)
Jaoquin Phoenix (Gladiator)
Willam Dafor (Shadow of the Vampire)
Jeff Bridges (The Contendor)

2001 - Ethan Hawke

Ethan Hawke (Training Day)
Ian McKellen (The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring)
Jon Voight (Ali)
Jim Broadbent (Iris) *
Ben Kingsley (Sexy Beast)

BEST ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE

2000 - Kate Hudson- some of her acting in this was absolutely beautiful :')

Marcia Gay Harden (Pollock) *
Frances McDormand (Almost Famous)
Kate Hudson (Almost Famous)
Judi Dench (Chocolat)
Julie Walters (Billy Elliot)

2001 -Jennifer Connelley, for once they got it right

Jennifer Conolley (A Beautiful Mind) *
Kate Winslet (Iris)
Marisa Tomei (In The Bedroom)
Helen Mirren (Gosford Park)
Maggie Smith (Gosford Park)

BEST DIRECTOR

2000 -Wong Kar-Wai for In the Mood for Love, Soderbergh comes close though.. for Traffic, not for Erin Brockovich

Steven Soderbergh (Traffic) *
Steven Soderbergh (Erin Brockovich)
Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot)
Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon)
Ridley Scott (Gladiator)

2001 - David Lynch for Mullhand Drive... yuck, can't believe a Beautiful Mind was so lauded. It's without a doubt one of the most overrated movies in recent years.

Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring)
Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind)
Ridley Scott (Black Hawk Down)
Robert Altman (Gosford Park)
David Lynch (Mullholland Dr.)

I wondered about that too, definitely not great years for movies. Agree with most of your choices too.

I'll be creating a 2002/2003 thread, and a 1998/1999 thread.

After each "expires" in about a week each.

:D

Great choices though guys, nice to see people are actually watching some of the smaller movies out there.
