After all the internal ranks are set, do the marks you get really count towards the ATAR.
e.g if the 1st rank student received a mark of 40 in internals and 70 for externals, what difference will it be if the same thing was to happen with exactly the same scores for a student ranked near last.

Basically, your internal marks are based off your cohorts performance in the externals. If the top external mark at your school is 80 and the bottom is 40, this means that the internal marks will be within this range. Your internal mark will correspond to your rank ie if you are 4th, you will recieve the forth highest internal mark.
