Transfer for Macquarie University.

Since a lot of questions have arisen on this topic of transfers internally within MQ.

(Note: These are for courses which are listed within the handbook for transfer, some courses though, have additional procedures, such as law, and will be covered later.)

* MQ Handbook, the most current is recommended as there have been quite a few changes from 2004 > 2005, or alternatively, http://www.handbook.mq.edu.au/.

- You want to read over this carefully especially sections concerned with the Internal Transfer within MQ. (2004 ed. p28)
- Additionally research the degree you wish to transfer to, any pre-requisites and cores which are involved within the new degree.

* Read http://www.handbook.mq.edu.au/degrees.php?edition=2005&level=ug for the relevant degrees and their conditions and programs of study.

Now you have those, we get to the actual process of the transfer procedure.

When is the policy available?

The policy is available to students on three occasions throughout the academic year. Students should note the dates marked on the degree transfer policy as no late applications are accepted in any circumstance.

The policy is available as follows:

* Late December (after examination results have been released) - Early January for changes to occur before enrolling in the new academic year
* During the first week of classes in Semester 1
* After the Semester 1 examination results have been published until the end of the first week of classes in Semester 2.

For semester 2, 2004 the dates are Wednesday 21 July - Friday 6 August 2004

As a successful degree transfer means an amendments to your HECS details or International Tuition Fees as changes must be finalised before the HECS Census Dates in each Semester.
* http://www.reg.mq.edu.au/Undergrad/UGStudents/XDegree/transfer_degree.htm Have a read of that, it outlines the policy of internal transfer. It is for the 2004 year, but it follows the same basic principles, just dates are changed.

* Make sure you have a GPA according to which course you wish to transfer to. This is probably the most important part unless you plan to transfer into one which uses a separate form of admission, ie audition, portfolio, etc. As a guide, 2.0 = Pass, 3.0 = Credit, 4.0 = Distinction and High Distinction @ MQ. Most courses follow the XX credit points, XX GPA, and the others have particular units which need to be passed with a certain grade. ie, A transfer into B Arts in Media and Cultural Studies internally would involve you to have a GPA of 2.5 with 18 Credit Points, and completion of MAS104, MAS105, CUL100 and CUL101.

* When the Internal Degree Transfer Policy is available, students can download a copy of the policy in pdf format by following this link. (http://www.reg.mq.edu.au/academic-index.htm)

(http://www.reg.mq.edu.au/Undergrad/UGStudents/XDegree/transfer_degree.htm#Applying) for the procedures in handing the forms in and where.

They will usually tell you via letter if your application is successful.
