just wondering if there is internet connections available in on-campus accommodation, i.e. evatt house, and how much does it cost and is it fast/slow?

yes there is int connection via the uni network, as for fast/slow it can exceed 800kBps+

fast and free :D :D :D (just don't download more than 360Mb a day or you will get temporarily booted. Be sure to check out the network as well. I "heard" that there are plenty of movies, music etc on it.

yeah i read it somewhere on the newcastle site

So you're saying i can download up to 360mb a day from non-uni server sites everyday?
Or just 360mb downloaded onto your pc max from anywhere?
That's mean you'll pretty much pay nothing for the whole year!

I know of someone who was downloading 6-12GB/day for a few weeks and he got into some shit...

how can the uni afford to allow students to download so much?
that's so cool. Other uni's charge like 5cents per mb..
oh well at least i can surf without being a tightass

no 10mbps would be too slow to support so many people
Universities, research companies and other organisations are allocated T1 (or T3? i forget) connections. These are like uber fast and can withstand quite a few people downloading like mad hehe, but the bill would be quite hefty too

I was actually talking about his connection. The main University pipe would probably be about T3 speed (44.736 Mbps) but definitely not a T1 connection (only 1.544 Mbps):).
