Hey guys -
I was wondering if any of you guys have hooked your ipod into your car stereo somehow (other than using a tape).

I have a mazda sp20 2002, with standard headunit, it has a 6 CD stacker in the dash.

How can i get my ipod to play through that?

I've thought of attaching a cable to the antenna of the back of the headunit and then running that directly to ipod, of course there's iTrip option, but apparently it doesn't work well in the city, what else can i do?

Anyone got some help on this please?

Do a search this has been discussed - your options are:

iTrip - I advise against the genuine one because its shit.
Replace the stock head unit with an iPod ready one.

Maybe go to some audio specialist and maybe they might know if you need to do change your head unit to accept AUX input? Not sure if your CD stacker takes up the AUX input or if it has some other method of connecting...

However, Avoid the FM transmitters- I'm yet to hear a decent one.

Get an FM Transmitter. Hooks into the Ipod Headphone jack and you tune into a preset radio frequency (gives you a few choices) and it transmitts whatever you're playing via your speakers. Pretty Simple.

Looks something like this http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/images/using/mobility/expert/FM-Transmitter-small.jpg

There's different ones but the Belkin ones are not bad.

Edit: Just read previous post proberly. I didn't find the quality bad but then I do have pretty crap speakers haha.

Contact alpine australia - I imagine they are not far off launch here.

Buy one in the states and have it shipped here - you may have to pay customs though.

I have the belkin one and it is ok at times, but i periodically goes screwie, I am waiting on something new that is supposed to be really good and actually intereface well with a nano, i may look at the alpine option if i must as it look great!

My advice: if you go with an fm transmitter get a good one (expect to pay fair price)

Pioneer have the iPod-ready headunits here already I think... but probably not as advanced. However if you want it now and don't need all the fancy searching stuff which is likely to only distract you when driving, you can probably save a bit since the stuff ain't so new.

I don't really want a headunit, I either want an itrip or if there's an auxiliary port in the back of this headunit (which I know there is now) I'll try to work out how I can plug in I guess...

Hopefully it's not taken up by your cd stacker =] If it is, maybe there's some way of switch available...

Go out (after you finish reading this) and buy an "airplay" if they don't know what it is where you go make them go on the internet and find it to order it for you, (Harvey Norman did for me) it will cost $99 it has two different settings (stereo and mono) which help reduce static and you can choose your chanel etc for the radio (its is an fm transmitter) the sound quality through my stock standard commodore is amazing, and truely rivals my really good headphones which shocked me and you can turn the ipod up to full volume (not possible with belkins and itrips etc)

Yeah it is amazing, i seriously was shocked beyond belief by how well it worked if you use the ipod in the car i reckon it is a good investment and if u have a nano it has a little holder which sticks to the dash to hold both!

Yeah, it isn't the most attractive thing in the world but it does a great job!
