in yr 12 gen maths exam they can ask up to 30% from prelim.....
so is this neccessary, assuming that i did yr11 gen maths too and i did kind of bad
50%-60% (passed) in yr11.

umm if you did bad i would review it..
they tend to only test you once in school on each topic though.. like you should have been tested on prelim knowledge at the end of year 11 and it probably wont be revisted until your trials in an exam
most year 12 topics follow on from year 11.. as in they are the basic version then year 12 content follows on. but there are a couple of things which arent in the year 12 textbook which are specifically prelim that can be tested (i think those tax income tables are one?) in your hsc
focus more on year 12 work for the moment and if things arise in your trials where you did badly in prelim work then go back over it.. until then i wouldnt be too phased

Did the school give you any idea of what will be in the exam? In my school, the half yearly exam only covers the stuff we learn in the HSC course.

Although they said in the HSC exam you can be test on Prelimary but the majority of questions are based on the HSC course.

In my school, HSC Assessment Tasks have a least one Preliminary Course topic included in the exam. It kind of forces revision of Year 11 work.

Your teachers should at least give you some sort of list of what will be tested in each exam, at least a week before, so then you'll know if to panic or not!

Good luck.
