Apparently there is a new rule from NESA that the school can only have 1 internal assessment that reflects the same structure as the HSC, which will be the trials, and all other assessments need to have some variation. Therefore, my school assessments are all so weird, e.g. in math adv, term 1 we have a test with a cheat sheet, term 2 is a test with some preseen questions, term 3 is an investigation and then term 4 is the trials. also english is hella weird, instead of just writing an essay for mod a, we have short answer questions which is quite pointless since I'm never gonna have to do that in the hsc.

anyway, is this the same with other schools, or is my school just weird? this never used to be a thing in previous years, it's just this year.

i didnt know and dont know if its a rule but my school has always done something similar but doesnt have as much variation as your school (like over the past few years). like we have topic tests, pracs, depth studies, investigation projects, hand in essays/projects etc but some subjects eg. maths dont have that much variation (mostly topic tests) so it does depend on the subject.

i just think its bc not all topics are best examined the same way and if every exam looked like the hsc it doesnt hit all the learning outcomes maybe? idk
