Now given that UNSW's B Commerce/B Arts program has been reduced from 5 to 4 years, it's nearly impossible to do 2 commerce majors and 1 arts major. T_T

I am planning to do Actuarial Studies and Chinese studies, plus a second commerce major. Is there such program that offers this or do I have to overload/take summer school? :O

You're quite ambitious! Good to see. I don't think you'll be able to have 3 majors within such a small period of time, unless some of the subjects for the Actuarial Studies major overlaps into whatever the second commerce major requires.

For example, for me to graduate with an official major in Applied Maths, I have to *making up numbers because I forgot, but you should get the general idea* do at least 12 credit points of topics that fall under 'Applied Math'. Let's just say for example that this includes the topics: Fluid Dynamics and Financial Maths.

Suppose I also want to major in Physics. However, the subject Fluid Dynamics also falls under the 'Physics' category, so it kinda 'overlaps'. Hence, I do not need to do the whole 'At least 12 credit points of Physics' in order to also have a Physics Major, since I've already done Fluid Dynamics, which covers both Physics AND Applied Maths!

I hope you understand what I'm saying.

In the worst case scenario, you may have to do a minor instead which isn't such a big loss when you think about it.

Yes I do understand that certain majors can overlap with different subjects. However, I doubt that Actuarial and my 2nd major will overlap (maybe not even finance) because actuarial subjects are actuarial studies only and often don't apply to any other subject :(

In the worst case scenario, you may have to do a minor instead which isn't such a big loss when you think about it.
Probs would have to end up doing 1 commerce major, 1 arts major and a minor somewhere in the end :(

I probably have to talk to UNSW about it after enrollments close (because I don't get back until the 5th of January, and info day is on the 4th of January T_T).

You might be able to.
For commerce/arts, you have to do 96 commerce units, and 96 arts units.
the actl major takes up, 48 uoc, and the compulsary cores/electives will take another 36 (since actl1001 and math1151 was counted in the 48 of ACTL). Leaving you with 12 uoc spare for commerce.

For arts, you need a major and at least a minor, Chinese will be your major, taking up 54. Now, here, at the bottom, in Double Major Stream and External Major Streams, you can pick of those for the 2nd major of Arts (instead of doing a minor). Let's pick international business coz its says its only 48 uoc, but since you would have done mgmt1101 for the commerce part of your degree, its only an additional 48 uoc.

So, in conclusion, yes you can, without doing any extra subjects. I believe if you do this, you would have satisfied all the requirements.

TL;DR

This would be the plan.
Compulsory cores/electives 48 UOC (This includes MATH1151, ACTL1001, MGMT1001)
Actuarial major an additional 36 UOC (Since MATH1151 and ACTL1001 were counted above)

Chinese Major 54 UOC
International Business Major 42 UOC
Prescribed faculty of arts elective 6 UOC

= 186 UOC
Then you still have 1 spare subject :p
You should confirm this with the uni though, but atm it seems fine to me.

Oh that looks good, but when I was looking at the Commerce/Arts section, it didn't really give much information of the above, and whether or not you would be allowed to do 2 commerce majors.

thanks for the information, will need to talk to the uni about it (can't go to info day so I'll have to talk in the period before I get my offer)

Ah, its a bit subtle, because you're not doing 2 majors for commerce,

you're doing 2 majors in the arts part of your degree. but one of those majors is from the ASB.

So technically speaking, my plan for Actuarial + Chinese + International Business/HRM is still okay then...

From looking at the B arts plan, why did they get rid of psychology as a major? I would have considered it too

I'm not too sure why either.
Yeah, that plans fine.
