just joined here and in need of help by anyone who is willing to comment on my half yearly results, i feel that i didn't do very well which i was pretty upset with myself, at the same time afraid of the upcoming future

English Standard: 70%
Math: 80%
Physics: 55%
Chemistry: 64%
SDD: 69%
IPT: 77%

i wish to know whether i have a chance to get around 92 UAI, i really hope it is still possible and i also like to know how much i have to improve in my next assessment and trials thanks

I can still see it being possible as long and you improve quite a bit.

lets put it this way... if u can find enough discipline in urself to work 4 hours a day every fukn single day for the rest of the days left... then im pretty sure u will get 92, if not more than that...

get some tuition for the harder subjects (being a victom of physics myself, i feel ur pain, try to get some help or forma study group if possible).

and even if u dunt happen to get 92!! AT LEAST U CAN SYA THAT U TRIED UR BEST!!!!!

ur chances are very high by the way... 4 hours a day is simply to be safe... but i would say that should be a minimum


by the way.. wat are ur ranks? because some schools are setting heaps hard tests... so if ur ranked averagely, then these marks aren't best potraying ur actual position... it can be de-moralising, but it helps u study...

so dunt lose hope no matter WHAT happens, just keep trying... there are HUDNREDS of opportunites and u can make ammense later..

thanks for the replies, aditya the ranks haven't been calculated so not sure about it yet, though i can pretty much estimate my position for chemistry and physics, 35/58 students, the exam was indeed pretty hard and heaps of people failed to do well

In my opinion, 4 hours is quite excessive.

Perhaps doing 4 hours a day until you catch up with your work or until you feel confident. Then reduce it to 2 hours of effective study, that way you won't burn yourself out when studying for the HSC exam.

Because more than 4 hours is needed as you approach the HSC.

yups that's what i am doing now, trying to organise my school notes and making my own notes which has taken up abit more time now though i know it is worth it for the future

does it really matter? 4 horus or 3 hours... do 2 2 hour brackts... itll pay off... id ratehr be on the safe side...

and bro, seriously, making notes is DEFINATELY not going to work for physics/chemistry... especially physics and maths u need to practice ur ass off!! notes are crap! notes are so readily avialble its not funny... u need to do the past hsc exam questions, u have over 7 years of exams avialble to u, my physics teacher says that u have should do a thousand questions, then after that... do another thousand, obviosuly thats an exageration, but his point is very clear...

but i liked what reagerunner said, study for four hours till u catch up then see how ur going with the current work....

but honestly... note making is good, but theres no point if they just collect dust... and it seems to me that for 6 of ur units, note making isnt going to do much good (english, chem and phys)

im jus tryin to help... so dunt get me wrong...

nuh it's okai i am open to suggestions, i understand how doing past exams are important, though i rekon having something to fall back on when you get stuck on a question really helps especially if it is effectively organised, much better than looking through a whole text book looking for an answer

so i'll also be doing past exams with my notes beside me and use it when i need it

For some people focusing on a particular number is really motivating, but for others it can be demoralising. Just bear in mind that whilst it seems the be-all-and-end-all now, in a few years time it will be the least of your worries. (Coming from a 2001 graduate!!) Have a goal, by all means, but don't let it consume you.

However, in my opinion all advice so far is worth heeding. Practise, practise, practise, do those past papers; find someone (teacher, fellow student, past student, ANYONE) who knows their subject and teaches you so YOU understand - not every teacher suits every student; give all your subjects a weightedly even study allocation - obviously if you have a natural talent for a particular subject it may require less time than, say, Physics (WHY!?!); and my personal advice: understand that this will all be over so soon, it's only a couple of months out of your life, so don't put anything off, if you do it today you can do something else tomorrow.

Good luck, and be happy with your best, only then can you have no regrets.

You can still do well. Just be consistent. Make sure u are doing your dot points for Physics and Chem, SDD and IPT. For English, most time is spent doing you Essays during the year, but make sure that before and after trials you practice as many papers as u can for English.

For Physics and Chem, as u do your dot points, don't just leave em to be learnt at the last minute(esp before trials). Keep on looking thru em from time to time. When u have read thru one thing again and again u tend to remember it, it helps avoid cramming just before an exam.

Practice papers for all your subjects.

Try and pull your mark a bit for Maths. Practicing Past HSC papers will help you learn the techniques required to tackel HSC Maths Questions. You will not always get those sort of questions as the ones you do in class.

4-6 Hours of Study will help

One more thing....the hardness of Exams vary from school to school. So your marks do not necessarily reflect how u'd go in the HSC. At least for me it was like that since our did not have any stats to predict our results and compare our assessments to other schools.

From my experience, it all depends on the day. You mite find the paper easy/hard or u never know if you are not feeling good etc.

On this website someone predicted for me that i'll get in late 80's cos of my school assessment marks. However i got mid 90's. So yeah, u never know-- Predictions are not worth it--at least in my view. It's a personal choice.

It was ages ago.

We did not have SAM at that time, just some member predicted it for me, may b around:

Maths 2u 86%
Maths Ext 1 60% (RAW)
Business Studies 95
English Standard 80
Chem 88
Physics 75

This is Just from memory..

HSC Exams are totally different from assessment marks...since hardness varies from school to school.

My Final Marks were:

Business Studies 91
Maths 2u 90
Maths Ext 1 44/50
English Standard 84
Chem 81
Physics 80 =\

I ended up with 94.80...

I am happy with it....my aim was to get over 90 UAI.

If you put in the effort u can reach your goal

Doing well in Standard English is the same as doing well in Advanced English... it won't hinder you from getting high.

Doing Standard English does not mean that u WILL get less than 90...it's how well u do in it

as if it doesnt... its like saying doing seniour science is equivalent to physics and chemsitry...

it just isnt the same, advanced english do much mroe work than standard english, so obviously some restrictions will apply...

but howd u pull of that maths 3u mark! im on about 60 now ... 88 would be adream come true
