You can't usually integrate random expressions... Including this one...
If you're masochistic and want to figure out random stuff then go to http://integrals.wolfram.com. It comes out with an extremely ugly expression.. you have been warned...
basically the techniques you're taught in 4U are only enough to integrate very very few simple expressions... unlike differentiation where you can virtually apply it to anything..

heh? Just curious, does machochistic/machoism have a mathematical meaning? Or are you suggesting that by following the instructions you have given one would be purposefully torturing themselves?

its from the concept of sadism-machoism
sadism- enjoying inflicting pain
machoism - enjoy receiving pain..
its two characters from a french novel..

the machoistic character says: "hit me [harm me?]"
the sadistic character says : "no"

i think turtle is talking bout harming ureself by doing crazy intergals

Yeah think I figured turtle's intention, however, sadomasochism actually means inflicting pain on oneself or others in a sexually oriented way and deriving pleasure from that. This was a form of "play" that came into existence through the writings and stories about the 18th century French author the Marquis de Sade, whose works were actually the beginning of modern paper pornography.
Hmm, this is totally non-maths related but kinky lexical density is always funny haha

lol..tried doin that question before. It takes like 5 pages but yea i think i got the answer..checked it with maple too=D

0. Make I = Int: ln(sec x + tan x)
1. times by sec x(sec x + tan x)/sec x(sec x + tan x)
2. Use changing variables if you know how to use it (LOL...ull be in a lot of trouble for this Q if u don't)
3. Integration by parts
4. Times by cosec x(cosec x + cot x)/cosec x(cosec x + cot x)
5. Integration by parts again
6. Keep multiplying
7. Should see a pattern with I
