no... if you appply for that one on seek, they provide you with 2 weeks full time paid training... usually its full time training but my recruiter also offered part time training (afternoons)...

we do basic troubleshooting where most things are on the screen for you if you need help.

a basic knowledge of computers is desirable but thats only for when the angry customers throw jargon at you you can throw it back :p

Yeah, what type of jargon, cause on work experience in yr 10 i worked a day or two in the tech support section of the IT department and it didnt seem like stuff that most ppl wouldnt know, well the phone stuff anyway

if you're young, they're reasonable. They don't expect you to have a million certifications after your name. Some understand that you don't have any experience at all.
It's a bonus to them if you do have the extra quals, but it's not vital to have them.

i can only speak for my job at teletech but i swear its dead easy... i have one A4 sheet of paper that i use at work that has EVERYTHING on it... the problem and the steps to take.

you only get the jargon when you get customers with, for example, networks. in my case we dont support customers with networks so you say "unfortunately because you are on a network i con only provide limited technical support unless you can isolate the computer and the modem." if they start throwing jargon you just say it again. if they argue, just say it again LOL eventually they will get the picture.

if you can, apply for the job i put up top... they take at least 15 people a time and they are great employers. they give you all the training you will need and its a really good thing to have an it job on your resume. also you dont need to master dialup, adsl and cable. they train you on one and you only get those calls. e.g. im trained in adsl so i only get adsl calls :)

oh and i also know we have call centres in canberra and some other places as well :)

good luck

How long are you planning to do it though?
I mean it's not like tech support is a career right?

Nah, there are actually ppl who do it as a career, like the ppl i did work experience with, were originally from other parts of IT but wanted to do Tech Support, but they were working inside an organisation, and serviced that organisation

Oh ok. I also want a career in IT later, I'd like something that earns $100 000 or more. Hmm, I saw on one of those career websites that IT manager or whatever had an average salary of $300 000 in Sydney, now that looks teh sex.

I do IT Support for Interfrank Holdings, when i was working full time (before uni started) i was making enough to get me about $30000 a year. However i was severely under paid due to being <18 when I started, some of the guys only 1-2 years older then me were making something like $800-900 and some of which were working less hours than me.
