My B/F finished IT certificate 3 as part of a traineeship (he was employed in the tafe computer department as a trainee, so he was working for and studying at tafe... if you get that) hes of the opinion that cert. 3 is well respected, but the teaching quality is pretty shit (mainly cos he knows more than the teachers... not even IT tafe teachers are allowed to fix/upgrade/install software(i mean, come'on, how can you f up insalling software!) the computers there... I don't know if thats just procedure or if they can't be trusted :))

When regarding his opinion though, keep in mind:
* He went to western institute tafe which is bound to have a lower teaching quality than bigger tafes (eg northern sydney institute of tafe) with more money to throw around, and in more popular places to live...
* He only had to attend class for one half day a week... compared to usual attendance of 20 hours (I think?)
*He still did learn how to do some stuff he didn't know you could do before (like make forms in excel... what the hell is access for if you can have forms in excel?! :)

sorry, pretty confusing info I know, make of it what you will :)

Hmm well from what i can see, having completed a dodgy cert 2 in IT and also seeing a few friends continue further with TAFE IT studies, IT at uni is completely different to that of tafe. I study IT @ uts and alot of the course involves programming in a variety of languages, cisco endorsed networking subjects and alot of group work involving systems analysis and design.
