Patterson's books are rather insightful, especially into the human condition. All of his novels have been worth reading, if one or two a little unbelievable.
Alex Cross is a good narrator, but I really like Samson, he's the best character in the Cross series.
Of his other works, the women's murder club is good, and two of his other novels, when the wind blows, and cradle and all, are excellent, if a little strange, especially the latter

Did James patterson write, pop goes the weasel? I've read that.. its pretty disturbing.

Yeah he wrote that. I guess if you haven't read any of his work before then it might be disturbing. However, compared to the writings of Thomas Harris (who wrote the Hannibal Lecter novels) it is fairly tame.
