Just a few questions about IT at UWS (1 Viewer)

I'm a first year studying Psych/Teaching and want to go to IT, however I didn't do Computers in the HSC, and only did a yr of 2u before I dropped to General.

I'd just like to know:

-is it absolutely essential that I should have done computers in school?...as I have an intermediate knowledge of computers, but I don't know how much I have missed (I know it isn't assumed or a prereq, but I'd still like to know)

-what kind of math is involved in IT courses?

thanks...

you dont need to do IT in teh hsc to be offered, although they may say you need to do it as a prereeq, its usally just recomnded since you learn about it again in first year units. like all courses, first year is the foundation studies that help you understand later work.

MAthematics is really necessary, you have to learn logic mathematics, its kind of hard to explain and quite hard to do for some [its needed for programming]. i need to tell you that with any coupmuting courses, it has a programming component as it is a necessary skill in IT, so good mathematical skills are a great help for that, but you dont need to be a maths genius for it. Statistics is easy, its the dicrete maths that will shock you as its not like the normal maths you learn at hsc level, its got to do with truth tables and crap.
im not trying to keep you away from it, but you do need that level of motivation to do it, its not easy but not too hard. I dropped IT coz i hate programming plus i had different expectations of it too.

hope it helps

Thanks girls.
I think I'm going to go against IT, but toward IS. I put my application in today, and I applied at UWS for my second preference, but with the Business Admin (IS + accounting). ahhh I feel like I am in yr12 again! This sucks haha

no offence to you , but i'm a guy!!!! [read gender!]
IS is good, about knowledge and how to share knowledge through the technology available today.
good luck with your choice!
