in the last scene of king lear where edmond and albany are about to fight and albany throws his glove down and edmond does the same
what does that mean i dont get the purpose and the meaning or symbol behind it.

by the way this may sound stupid but what did edmond do that caused albany to accuse him of treason. i know he comitted adultery but that had nothing to do with treason (or did it)'

im kinda lost with the confrotation of the two in the last scene

I the old days where they sorted out feuds by duels, throwing down a glove - or slapping the face of your opponenet with a glove was like challengeing them to a duel.

Edmund was accused of treason because he was ploting againts the king - pure and simple (as were goneril and reagan). I don't have the text infront of me and i can't remember EXACTLY what he did. I'm sure it was mainly because he was plotting against Lear.
