what does syntax mean?

don't take my word for it, but i think syntax means structure.

edit: if you're talking about computer syntaxi, then it's probably due to an error during script compilation (eg. check you've closed off ml commands)

I think its got something to do with the structure and formation of sentences.

What does it mean if my teacher said (for the creative writing piece in the AOS paper) to avoid syntax?

syntax means the placement of words in a sentence
i went to the beach yesterday
yesterday, i went to the beach.

maybe the 2nd sentence is emphasising that you went yesterday.

avoid syntax?? don't know. unless she means avoid the texhnique of syntax.
