Does anyone here "do" the LAN party thing? See I'm doing ethnographic research for media/comm, and in all my infinite wisdom chose to study LAN-ers. (I should point out I've never been to a LAN party in my life nor do I have much clue how they work). I'll be attending a (home) LAN as a field study but I'm also collecting data off the net. If theres enough LAN-knowledgable-and-go-to-these-things people here I'll post my survey, otherwise I need help finding a decent messageboard for it (cos all the ones I've visited are like, dead).

i think you really have to attend a big lan to see anything worth noting...
i'm sure in sydney there would be pretty big ones.

That's true, but it's a small scale study (i.e. 6-10 people).

well, in terms of file sharing, lans are the only place it is possible due to the limited internet speeds of most people.

as for gaming, If your looking for a comparison to non-physical space, ie. on the internet
i'm not sure how you would observe that... mabye at internet cafe?

My LAN! I go there its really good and it sports great organisers also. If anyone lives local I suggest you go to it, if you dont already.

Theres the Sydney Metro Gamers Leage which is in Sydney, I think that one is pretty serious, no leeching and only gaming.
