On behalf of the beleagured rate payers of Liverpool I encourage all of us to spread this image throughout the internet to ensure that Australia does not become another Liverpool council with its high debt, ultra-high rates and Orange Grove and Oasis developments.

His party has run the council since then up until they were saked recently. Most of the problems the council has faced since then were cause by Mark Latham's disasterous policies as Mayor. Things have not improved much since other ALP figures have taken over though.

I want some figures from Mark Latham apparent mismanagement at Liverpool Council.

Even if he did, look at it as his experience. So get rid of that stupid picture.

Howard needed his experience too...only he didn't fuck a local council...

1. On what basis is Mark Latham going to manage the economy bady...you know all of the policies that he has put out are fully costed...?

LAtham is not exactly a L plate politician...hes been around the game for 20 years...you know if its all experience we should probably re elect Whitlam or Hawke or Frasier and other assorted geriatricts...then again Frasier would make a much better PM than Howard even though hes old
Mark Latham has never even had a job outside of politics so what else are we supposed to go by? He has never been a minister....never run a business...never even worked for a business. The only thing he has ever run (Liverpool Council) was a resounding failure and the rate payers of Liverpool suffer to this day for it.

The main problem with Latham's policies is not their cost but their industrial relations policy. Outlawing individual bargaining can only rise inflation and wipe off productivity gains which will in turn lead to a rise in interest rates.

i want to know why someone who lives in campbelltown identifies as a 'rate payer of liverpool' considering that they are two completely different CITIES.

1) Promising to keep the budget in surplus, despite any economic down-turn.

2) Imposing regulation upon the labour market, when even now Howards 1996 Workplace Relations Act is partially responsible for our current record low unenmployment.

And asqy, yes strengthening unions WILL reduce productivity. Unions operate by serving the worst worker, and not the best. As such, unions will maintain poor productivity growth, will taking advantage of award wage increases.

With the current system unions need to arrange for wage increases inline with increase in productivity. Evidentally, Latham doesn't like that.

in the process they also happen to help the better worker...UNIONS AND STRIKES DO NOT DECREASE PRODUCTIVITY
They help better workers by reducing their wages, and increasing the wages of the worse workers? Unions maintain the same rate of pay for all workers.

Please explain your reasoning.

I do not identify as a rate payer of Liverpool. I live in the Campbelltown City Council area. Our council has suffered because of Mark Latham's policies, however, as councils in Western Sydney tend to share insurance and other costs.

oh crap ...the unions debate again

STRIKING DOES NOT DECREASE PRODUCTIVTY...

1. Productivity gains destroyed...profits less? How bout they make their workers bring their own toilet paper...

2. The old story that the employer removed the toilet doors in order to discourage workers to not go to the toilet at work in order to increase productivity...

3. Workers have rights...yes unionism can get out of hand...its a bit rich to suggest that productiveity would me MASSIVLY improved if we increased the strength of individual bargaining or that productivity would be destroyed if we people strike
I do not have a problem with unions. In my opinion they are important bodies for many workers. I DO have a problem with forcing people to belong to unions and denying people the right to bargain individually by giving unions the only seat at the table. In my opinion it is a fundamental human right for people to be able to negotiate their own wages if they wish to do so.

The point I was making about productivity was not related to strikes (although coincidently strikes are now at their lowest level since records began. The point I was making was in relation to inflationary wage claims. Unions have a tenency to demand wage increases that are not related to productivity gains. All this does is creates inflation which benefits no one in the end.

I am not going to argue with you here. This is the fundemental difference between us. I believe in the power of the individual whereas you do not which is why you are a Labor supporter. This is more a matter of ideology than anything else.

Wage increases that apply to the union workforce as a whole - obviously not individual workers.

it wasn't a random link. Howard launched an ad campaign against latham targeting his economic credentials, which was in line with what asquithian said.
well please do excuse me for intruding on your private thread, I thought we advocate free speech in this great nation of ours. I will remember to ask permission next time.
