“The legal system needs to be adaptable to the changing needs of society” … Evaluate this statement in relation to the role of law reform agencies and the conditions that give rise to he need for reform in the area of family law.

Depending on which textbook you have, I'd say focus on the chapter of Law Reform and how successful these reforms are in relating to the area of Family Law.

when you see a question asking you to evaluate you must suggest some criteria against which you can measure. in this case they are saying the legal system must be responsive - this is related to concepts of justice - so make this your criteria; ie the actions of agencies in introducing reforms ensures consistent justice against a backdrop of social change.

you can outline the various social (and other) changes that lead to a need for reform and show how what the agencies do addresses this. so look at the courts responses to different situations, how parliament legislates and the input of various commissions and social reform groups.

i would try to find specific links eg a) broader social empowerment of women and children and lessening of religious power lead to family law act,
b) the property (relationships) act nsw 1984 which recognises a whole range of common relationships other than marriage

drag in another theme regarding change and continuity and show that this reform process is consistent with the principles our system, and that the changes, in a sense, change nothing. there has always been justice, there is still justice. the reforms allow for the same justice to be applied in a new situation.

sprinkle liberally with relevant examples as cases, legislation or current media reports

bada bing bada boom................
