I feel so stupid but what is the layout of a letter?

salutation - dear sir/madam. pleasantries. then u do ur intro.
body - like essay. except u have first-person/second person, conversational, slightly relaxed tone.
conclusion - finish up, then sign off.

The only thing I remember about a letter is that my teacher said everything has to be aligned to the left.

er.. i think it won't matter... =P
it's like with newspaper/feature articles.... u dont' need to do it in columns or do pictures... they don't mark layout.
