Yes, you should always link them. Techniques are one way to link them. Other ways might be through common themes, content, ideas, context and characters. Also, remember that you don't have to find similarities in order to link them. You can synthesise them through their differences eg: Unlike 'The Siege', 'This Night of Nights' places particular emphasis on..........

Hope that helped

yes, you should at least try to. what i try to do is choose a frontline episode that has something in common with the related material, read muhammad 1's post.

yes, most definitely.
the whole idea of related materials is that theyre linked, it 'related' to the main text.
the examiners are looking to see if you understand the big picture - ie the whole idea of how the media misrepresents the truth. if you integrate your texts properly, you can show each issue by giving examples from different texts. (each issue should share around 2-3 texts, 4 max, otherwise it can get messy). the marker will love it. eg "in the text, the continuous manipulation and sensationalisation of the truth accentuates the struggle for power in modern society. this is most evident in the text...." etc.

they don't have to be, but to maximise marks you should link them. Someone who integrates thier related materials into their frontline discussion will receieve a higher mark than someone who doesn't.
Contrasting them could work too.

btw, have a go at deconstructing fineweather's ad for this module: namely these sentences:
- 'QUALITY ENGLISH TUTOR'
- 'on average, all my students' results have risen by 25% within 4 weeks of lessons. 25% in just 4 weeks!!!' :D
