I'm doing an Extension English task and I think I need more texts to work off of. So far, I have:

  • Looking for Alibrandi - Melina Marchetta
  • The Messenger - Markus Zusak
  • The Underdog - Markus Zusak *
  • Fighting Ruben Wolfe - Markus Zusak*
  • When Dog's Cry - Markus Zusak *
*Writing about these as a series as a whole, so I count them as one book.

I was thinking of using Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta also, but I think using too many books from the same authors is getting a little bit silly.

TOPIC IN FOCUS: Youth Affairs

Well, we need to use literature to explore how something culturally significant has been represented and appropriated over time. Books are our main concern but films and whatnot can come into the appropriations part to it. That's why I'm asking for books specifically :D

Oh yeah, I chose to research Youth Affairs (in general).

JUST IN CASE - Meg Rosoff
THE BOOK THIEF - Markus Zusak
um and...

BLACK BEAUTY - Anna Sewell ???
What theme do the texts have to follow? BLACK BEAUTY would be great if 'twas 'loyalty'...JUST IN CASE by Meg Rosoff is really good - philosophical, funny, touching. My uncle said THE BOOK THEIF was really good; riveting. I have not yet read it.
Good luck!

:D I wrote Anal Sewell omg i'm not funny :-(

Bookwise

The Secret Seven by Enid Blyton (i know pre-teen but speaks of youth affairs in regards to not following sterotypes per say)

Film wise i can think of 3

1, Clueless
2, Sexy Boys (its a french film speaks of youth and sex)
3, American pies etc.

EDIT:
Thought of another

Cruel Intentions 1 or 2

Ive been doing a legal essay on the effectiveness of legal and non legal responses for protection from discrimination in the Australian legal system and society.

All I really need to know is:

Is the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commision a legal or non legal response? Im not sure if I will use it or not, but it would be nice to know.... Since it has no power to enforce decision.

Also, one more question:

What about the HRCA? And is there any specific Lobby Groups that I could write some info on?

Thanks in advance.

When we did "Looking for Alibrandi" I used the film "Black Rock" as a related text

I used New Moon by Stephenie Meyer in a simular situation but maybe you should have a peek at the whole saga to find a book more suitable to the actual topic in question.
Try Clueless as well if you ever needed a movie. ;)

ive read the messenger my mark zusack and its strange....
when we did this subject the teacher told us to look through the newspaper and look for stories. i personally picked out a journey story about the stolen generation, and the lyrics from a song. there are so many examples out there, for example my friend did the book destroying avavlon which happens to be a great example for journey.
