i am going to apply for unitrack, just wondering if anybody could shed some light on these courses - Marketing &/or Management - to help me better make my decision?

Ive been skimming through a few threads, and alot of pple seem to like marketing. Thats good. WHY SO?

does marketing involve alot of maths? cos i failed 2U miserably in high school.

and with Introduction to business law. Is first year like HSC legal studies? or totally different?

Sorry for asking these questions. Thanks in advance.

Hey, I do management and find that its a pretty interesting degree too,
the marketing and management degrees overlap in many ways and i suppose that the management degree is more broad, covering many different areas of business with the opportunity to specialise if you want to, while the marketing degree is more if you want a career specialising in marketing.

Many of the introductory classes for both the degrees are the same too, personally I found the management degree gave me more freedom (until I took up the law degree as well :p) but I dont really know and ppl in marketing will probably have a different view...

management: doing this, you should combine it with a more specific major like say accounting, marketing etc. In management you learn to be like a business consultant, gaining knowledge about organisational aspects like structure, behaviour and stuff but you wouldn't be able to get a job in management withthe degree. You need experience and thats why you would need to combine it with another major/sub-major.
It a good course if you like it, and it is more suited to the english-type person (as in the subject not the people) and only has accounting as the maths subject. But choose what you like, although you may think you suck at math, you can get alot of support from the uni [unless LSU is gone] with maths and the mathematics isnt that hard as say 2 unit at high school. Trust me, there is no differentiation and intergration and all that other bs [i did 2u as well]. Stats is easy peasy if you read the text and remeber how the formulas work and what they mean. Accounting is passable if you read the book and do the work. first year subjects are a bit more book related than 2nd and 3rd year subjects where there is more brain power needed.

I did intro to business law last year, its kinda like hsc legal studies except harder (obviously as a uni subject), basically you start out looking at the foundations of law in australia and legal history, then the rest of the focus is on contract law and torts, - the biggest aspects of law in business. Thats about it really

I hated my tutor for the subject, couldnt understand a word he said but i still did ok...

lol intro to bus law/ intro to law are both kinda like Legal Studies.. if you had a g ood teacher that is..

Some poeple have been totally freaked out by it coz it was nothing like school, but others find it a breeze coz they learnt the correct writing techniques and more than the bare minimum in school.

But that said - it is only an introductory subject so as long as you do your work, it's not exactly the hardest most stressful uni you'll ever do :)
