Am i the only one who thinks that the Howard governments maternity payment is a bloody bribe? Convenient timing ... just before the election they receive $600. Bloody shameless.

It isn't combatting the birth rate problem. When the first payment went out there was a sudden increase in pokie earnings .... geez i wonder why that might be!

Actually, the Maternity Payment is $3,000. This payment will increase to $5,000 in 2006 (I think). The $600 payment your refering to is a payment given to all under 18 (there parents anyway), under Family Tax Benefit A.
