Mathematica, Maple and Matlab are the 3 major programs. To say which one is better is a rather pointless argument, each has their own strength. However they are expensive.

There was a free graphing tool I've tried before...it is quite suitable for the HSC syllabus, although I personally use one of the major programs since I need some of the more powerful functions. However I do not remember its name. I'll try and find it for you.

They don't really help that much, just that it allows you to check the answer. As for the major ones they can be used to integrate/differentiate tricky/tedious problems, calculator beyond 15 significant figures, etc. So not really that useful in the HSC.

They are useful at more of a 4unit level for becoming very familiar with graphs and theri various features. But they should NOT be used as a crutch.

Graphmatica does the job for anything you'll encounter in year 12, and it's also less than a megabyte to download.:)

EDIT: I think this might be the one Templar's referring to.

Spot on

Although I just love Mathematica's ability to spit out every digit of 100!

...of 100 what?

But yes, Mathematica is impressive. And it works very, very well. *huggles Mathematica*

That said, let me add my voice of support for Graphmatica -- it's a nice program.

Haha...that's not a good sign for me...I don't usually miss things like that. Meh, maybe more sleep will help.

*takes his three hours of sleep and trundles off to orchestra*
