Who did math2111 last yr (elec, maths pplz)? For the 2nd class test set by Wolfgang Schief on line/surface integrals, integral theorem, potential theory, etc, what sort of questions did Wolfgang put in the exam?

Err.... Doust and Wolfgang did not teach 2111 last year...... I think Sutherland did...

I feel the stress.......

doust swapped with sutherland for the "pure stuff" (theyre both pure math lecturers). wolfgang taught this same "applied" stuff last yr.

damm it!...i dun wanna have to prove green's 3rd identity >.<

I thought he said there will be no proving today?!? ..... Sorry for misleading you.. I thought he didn't teach last year because his notes was not there before...

Indeed.... I never know how to change bases..... none of the Qs from last year appears in this test...

Can't wait to see the stats Ian gives out !!!

No, didn't know how to do the bases changing question... lost 8 marks from that... end up 15/26............... place me in the 30%-50% group.. sigh.....

i got 23. how did u get that statistic - 30-50%? cz i know Doust usually gives a description of the distribution of marks

I didn't write down the distribution from the tut, but it went something like this

0 - 5 ~ 5
6 - 10 ~ 11
11 - 15 ~ 11
16 - 20 ~ 5
21 - 26 ~ 6

I'm in the ~16/38 - ~25/38 group so I'm in the 30% to ..... wait should be 40% to 60% :p oops my poor statistic knowledge....

so you are one of those 20+ people......... i'm hunting you down :D

tsk tsk, not even 90%... not good enough.... :D

i dont think there would be too much difference in standards of marking between the wolfganf and doust tho, since they prolly worked out a marking scheme together...

the finals is gonna be crazy :\

i think there will be quite a bit of scaling for math2111 since the average for test 2 is 12.9/26

r u sure the finals will be hard? on one hand, the tests were relatively straightforward (mostly computation) (refer to solutions on the web) so if this is the trend the final should be ok? (no comparison can be made with previous exams as they had different lecturers). But maybe they will make the final hard to spread the marks out?

I've heard that doust have to reconsider the test and is going to take out all the hints in the test.. like we have to know this question is asking us about Green's Identity 2 or we have to use Gauss's law in integral form.....

won't that make the final exam really hard? and the spread of marks will be even more screwed than test 2. i dun get why the marks were rescaled. shouldnt they scaled at the end to compare with math2011?

EDIT: Test 2 was ok now that Wolfgang has explained to us since he seems to emphasise understanding of concepts rather than pure computation (ie, parameterisation). Maybe that could also give us a hint of what to expect?
