Hi guys,

So I go to Ngo and Sons for 3u maths tutoring... Only just started on trig identity. I need help asap on maths h/w or i will be screwed for tomorrow.

1. Simplify the following

a) tan²x + cot²x – sec²xcosec²x.
b) (1 - cos²x)(1 + cos²x)


2. Prove the following

a) sqrt[(cosec²x - 1)(1 + tan²x) = |cosecx|
b) (5secx + 4tanx)² + (4secx - 5tanx)² = 41

Q1 (a) Turn everything in terms of sin and cos, then combine into a single fraction.

Q1 (b) Difference of two squares, OR you can recognise that 1-cos^2 = sin^2

Q2 (a) Think about the other 2 trig identities such as 1+tan^2 = sec^2 etc...

Q2 (b) Turn everything into sin and cos, then combine into a single fraction, and use the fact that sin^2 + cos^2 = 1.
