Omega can mean anything we want it to mean. It means whatever the question specifies it is (at least at MX2 level, not sure if there is some uni math thing utilising omega)

Sometimes it is a symbol for roots of unity

Lower case Omega is used in the MX2 course to denote angular velocity. In Physics capital Omega is used to denote Ohms [Resistance]. It also is sometimes used to denote a complex number when z has already been used. You probably saw it during the topics of roots of unity.

It really depends on the context.

Don't you mean capital omega is ohms and lower case omega is angular velocity?
