most of the people in my ext.2 class just got our advanced teacher to be their mentors - we've got a diff. teacher for extensions so they find it easy to consolt between the two. My mentor is just my dad (smart, smart man). It's nothing official or anything, I just consolt him often about my work and he gives me some tips. I'll probably get more teacher assistance once I start editing, coz I got all my footage shot (doing video), but for now its just my dad.

So yeah, mentors arent spose to be a really big deal, I dont think, as I said, most other students in my class just have our advanced teacher as a mentor.

Yea, they're allowed... some people pay like $50 an hour for them...

mentors usually just come from the field of ur work, like if its a critical analysis then maybe a uni professor, if its a short story, then a novelist, if its a website than a mulitmedia specialist. its difficult to find ppl who are credible and are willing to help AND have the time but once u find the right person, its very helpful

and not all ppl charge money for their time...those ppl arent really "mentors" as such when u think about it...

Yea, we have class in the double period on Thursday afternoon when everyone else has sport... but how do teachers keep track of attendance if you don't have classes?

wow thats weird. nah...i mean each of us get assigned a teacher. theres about 3 to 5 students per teacher.. and we just chat about our works n stuf n get advice. heehee its like group therapy :D but its not a class as such. just a weekly meeting. and they're called mentors, not teachers? so there must be some discretion between class and our meetings right?

i think ill ask my english teacher if he'll get offended if i also get a mentor... i dont know if i should?
He shouldn't - alot of people get another opinion from someone whoe has expert knowlegde in what they are exploring.
Anyway - a second opinion is always helpful - but if ur teacher is the kind of person that will get offended make sure u make it clear that u will come to him with ur ideas first (make him feel better) and so forth.

Up in Byron there is a writer's centre, which can put you in contact with local writers who are willing to be mentors. I don't know if there is such a thing in other people's areas, but check out if there is something similar. I might be getting Thea Astley as a mentor, which would be very good. Ask people if they know writers of any sort (or directors or poets etc.) just ask everywhere, people always know people who know people who know people! ;)

I have babydoll_ as my "mentor". lol, more like i just tell her what i'm doing, and she usually says, make sure you put that in your journal. But it works out fine.

Not exactly sure what you mean by a mentor though. Hrm.

and our school has two classes of ext2 english. hehe, its like 40ish people. so there, sefton. :p
