I need to clear something up, first computers were made from vacuume tubes, then they were replaced with transistors, then all these transistors were replaced with microchips, then the microprocessor was invented which put all the chips into one superchip?

How do microprocessors use transistors?

by 1960 vacuum tubes were being supplanted by transistors, because of their reliability and their cheaper construction costs. Computers changed from a room full of cabinets requiring air conditioning and stable power supplies to table power supplies to table top models and eventually to hand held devices.
Discrete transistors soon gave way to integrated circuits (IC;s), allowing complete appliances to be built on a single chip. In 1971, Intel produced its first microprocessor. As microcomputers become popular, the demand for mass produced IC's increased, reducing their costs. By 1983 over half a million components could fit on a single chip. Now they hold millions of components and microprocessors can be found in most household appliances.
