hello =]

you know how, to be eligible for a higher school certificat/uai, you have to have completed a minimum number of hrs for each subject? ie been at school for a minimum number of hours?

what is that minimum?

and what happens if something like sickness prevents you from fulfilling it?

This is what I've gathered from one of the manuals on Board of Studies:

Board of Studies said:
6.1.2 Board Developed and Content Endorsed VET courses –
minimum length
The minimum length of ‘stand alone’ Board Developed and Content Endorsed VET
Courses, including those delivered by TAFE, is 120 hours. Students who complete only
60 hours of a 120-hour VET Framework course or of a VET Content Endorsed Course
will not be accredited for one ‘stand alone’ unit within their pattern(s) of study for
Higher School Certificate eligibility. Such students will, however, receive recognition
within the Australian Qualifications Framework for units of competency achieved.
Schools delivering 120-hour VET Framework courses or Content Endorsed VET
Courses over two years must ensure that students are fully aware of these
credentialling implications.
In this respect, 'stand alone' Board Developed courses seem to be the normal range of subjects, like english, maths etc. I also seem to think that the 120 hours is just for the single year only, so over the two years, you should get 240 hours minimum done.

EDIT: Found this as well
Board of Studies said:
8.11.2 Units of study
A unit of study comprises 60 hours indicative time in each of the Preliminary and
HSC courses. Indicative time is the time expected for a typical student to achieve the
objectives and outcomes of the course. The indicative time for a course is therefore
directly related to that course’s objectives and outcomes.
A Preliminary 2 unit course and Preliminary Extension course (in English and
Mathematics) may be studied concurrently. For all HSC Extension courses except
HSC Mathematics Extension 2, an HSC Extension course may only be studied
concurrently with, or after completing, the HSC 2 unit course in the subject.
Studies of Religion I may be studied as both a Preliminary course and an HSC course
(120 hours) and students must satisfactorily complete the Preliminary course before
commencing the HSC course. Students may be credentialled for satisfactory
completion of Studies of Religion 1 Preliminary course (60 hours).
Fundamentals of English is a 2 unit course available as a Preliminary course only
which may be studied in Year 11 or Year 12 or both Years 11 and 12. Completion of
60 hours of the Fundamentals of English course will be credentialled by the Board
provided that students have:
• completed 24 hours of study in Module A;
• completed at least 18 hours of study in each of two other course modules; and
• achieved some or all of the course outcomes as required by the principal.

Don't worry, since you have a reason then as long as your school is aware of it then you won't fail because of attendence. You can pass the HSC with very minimal attendence :)

=] ...okay, what if you don't have a solid reason. by sickness i meant on and off flus etc, not a long standing illness...

not one of those things you apply EAS for.

so if you just happen to be away from school quite a lot, does it matter as long as you have at least minimal attendance, and you're still getting top marks?

Did you have doctor's certificates? If your school isn't on your back about it then it usually means they are not worried.

Yeah, your school would have told you by now if you were in danger of not passing. So its probably not even an issue!
