I notice UAC has released more statistics than previous years (i think) showing the trends of Scaled marks and the trend of HSC marks.

will this make SAM more accurate?

Again, no. It will just make it more accurate at predicting UAI's from previous years. Forward predictions ... Well they're just as innacurate.

We may work on devising a methodical approach to predicting future UAIs throughout 2005.

In its current form, SAM was never intended to be able to predict UAIs.

More statistics always improves accuracy.

They don't help us predict UAIs, but they do help students predict their own HSC marks.

Just a fun fact, go to http://www.uac.edu.au/pubs/pdf/2004-Table-A5.pdf and scroll down to the last course (Philosophy Distinction), notice the 2.0% scored lower than 60% all the way through to the final column <30%. There were 49 people in the course, so this means ONE single person scored a mark <30, while EVERYONE else in the course got above 60%. Sucks to be that guy.

wouldnt it mean that the person who got <30 also got <25, <20 and <15?
perhaps he didnt turn up to the exam?
