i've got alot of mp3's and soon i am going to buy a mp3/wma flash player. since wma's have smaller file sizes, i could fit more by using wma's.
The thing is, how do i convert all my mp3's into wma?
do you guys know any software that will?
Most of my mp3's are on my hd and wmp wont convert them for me...arggg!
HELP!!

thanks in advance!!

it will be abit of a bitch, i suggest stop encoding your stuff to mp3s now and move on to wma's, your collection will slowly increase

Easy CD-DA Extractor is good for file conversion if you want to try that, but I think Li0n's idea is more appropropriate - rip your CDs to wma instead of mp3.

Itunes also converts files, but unless you're transferring songs to an Ipod, I don't think your player will be able to read the m4a files.

i think the new lame encoder encodes at faster and smaller bit rates and you can even specify how low you want it to be. Im not sure if it can encode from wma though.

Converting from a lossy source to another lossy format will result in a great loss of sound quality. As different compression codecs use different algorithms and discard different frequencies, the music will sound thin and tinny. Converting from a higher bitrate mp3 to a lower bitrate isn't as bad, but you still loose considerable quality.

If you don't really care for quality, you can use dbpoweramp to convert the files. You will need to download the program and the Windows Media plugin; both availible at http://www.dbpoweramp.com/.

Cheers.

what happens if you burn them onto cds, then load them back onto your computer? since the songs that load onto the computer from cds are wma files...

Not quite. That's another option but waste of time and a CD. But if you wanted to, yeah, you could burn your mp3s back to CD, and rip them again but encode as wma. 10x easier to just convert the files though *shrugs*.

or you can make a virtual burn
burn into an image file ^_^

but anyway the program mentioned by equiski is free so u wont need to make virtual cd.

streambox ripper is pretty good....even though there are some music files it doesn't convert....also you can keep the file as mp3 while decreasing the size
And there's also Ace-High mp3 wma wav ogg conversion - that is, however, only a trial version....bu
t it's still good
