Just wondering...

A little while ago i typed "www.msn.com" in the address bar and it came up a page that looked like a more basic version of the proper "ninemsn.com" (it had the logo etc) but quite obviously wasnt the right one.

Well yesterday i checked my hotmail and signed out, but it went straight to the "msn.com" page instead of the proper "ninemsn.com" one. This has never happened before.

Is this one of those immitation sites thats infected? And has it affected my com in some way?

I just tried then, and it signs out, redirecting to ninemsn.com. It's unlikely your browser would have been hijacked to go to msn.com, seeing as that too, is Microsoft.

Also; did you check your email from the browser (logging in through ninemsn), or from Messenger?

Through browser.

So what is this msn.com though? Why would they make another one?

i think www.msn.com is american and www.msn.com.au is australian (which redirects to ninemsn)
maybe if you logged in through msn.com when you signed out it went back to it?

yeah its like that cassey donovan affair without adding the .au it's actually a critical part of your url. www.yahoo.com and www.yahoo.com.au are different sites for example.

if u change your locality settings to australia then this should happen

msn.com.au was once a completely different site to ninemsn - but they merged forces in about 1998. I think that the msn network has pages all accross the world for different target countries - and some times they are affiliated with a media group.. like Channel 9 in Australia.

Nah i definitely went through "hotmail.com"
