Course description:
In the preliminary and HSC courses, students will study the concepts of music through the learing experiences in performance, compositon, musicology and aural within the context of a range o styles, periods and genres.
Main topics covered:
Students study three topics in each year o the course. Topics hich cover a range of styles, periods and genres are chosen rom:
- An instrument and its repertoire
- Australian music
- baroque music
- jass
- medieval music
- methods of notating music
- msic and the related arts
- music and religion
- music for large ensembles
- music for radio
- film
- televison and multimedia
- music in edication
- music for small ensembles
- music of the 18th century
- music of the 19th century
- music of the 20th and 21st centuries

- popular music
- renaissance music
- rock
- technology and its influence
- theatre music
Particular course requirements:
HSC Course
In addition to core studies in performance, composition, musicology and aural, students select three eletives rom an combination of peofmance, compsotion and musicology. These electives must represent each of the three topics studied in the course.
Students selecting compsotion electives will b required to comile a portfolio of work as part of the rocess of preparing a submitted work. The portfolio may be requested by the Board of studies tovaludate authorship or submitted work

for the external HSC exam:
so you have to do a core performance, a 45 to 1hr aural exam, another performance, a composition and one viva voce (musicology)
for the internal..
you do a core peformance, core comp, core musicology, core aural and 3 electives( so u can do 3 performances, 3 compositions etc etc or mix them up)
