i am going to be doing a double degree with accounting at MQ, most probably. i will be looking at trying to transfer to actuarials in my second year, if possible[ i got 94.1]. but chances are that i might not make it.

but i am ok with that, because i think that accounting and finance/business admin is a good enough degree to end up with.

the thing is that whether i should do this at MQ, with a chance of having a chance at actuarials, or maybe at a different uni. in other words, how is doing an accounting degree at MQ compared to doing one at a different uni?

thanks.

I hear Macquarie Uni is quite hard in terms of accounting. I had a friend who started doing the B Business (Accounting) course and she transferred after a year (after failing like 2 subjects or something). I've heard from others too that its hard, but better to ask the people in the Macquarie Uni forums, since this is my opinion.

UTS have a great business course (BBus) which you can do accounting and finance in as majors (2003 UAI was 93.25). I've done the first 2 accounting subjects, and it wasn't that bad, lol.

USyd and UNSW also have similar offers with their commerce degrees (but with a higher UAI).

Well of course I'm tempted to say UTS, since I go there, lol. Although UTS doesn't offer actuarial studies though, if this is your intended future path. I think the UTS degree is great (BBus), as it focuses both on theory and practical skills as well. You learn about many areas of business, as well as focusing on 1 or 2 majors in your chosen areas (so accounting and finance). I would highly recommend this course, although you seem to have your heart set on Macquarie Uni.

I think the accounting degree at Macquarie Uni is alright, but if your going to do that, you may as well do what you originally wanted to do with the double degree and try to transfer into actuarial studies. I can't speak much on behalf of Macquarie Uni, so you may wish to ask people in the Macquarie Uni forums about their advice on the Business degrees available there. I've only told you what I've heard from others.

Whichever degree you choose to do, good luck with it! =)

Accounting at MQ is pretty good - they have a specialist B.Commerce - Accounting degree, but yeah, my friends there say the subjects are quite hard..the topics they teach in foundation courses seem a bit extreme, if u compare them to UNSW or USyd

another option could be to do a B.Economics at UNSW and transfer into commerce and doing Actuarials and Accounting double at unsw
