i am really confused can someone give me quick help? or detailed..:)

How would you draw the structural formulae for
1, 1, 1 - tribromopentane
1,1,3,3-tetrabromobutane
2-bromo-3-bromo-2-pentene
1-chloro-2-iodo-3-methylpentane

Please i am really confused?

also how would you draw 3-chloro-3-ethyl-2-pentanol

and why can't you name Ch3Cooh as 1 ethanoic acid?

It's implicit in the structure of the molecule. You can't make a two carbon carboxylic acid that isn't 1-ethanoic acid so we omit it.

+1

Um i don't think u've learned stick notation but basically each corner represent a carbon, and each line is a bond so say for example the first structure drawn. the basic line structure is something like
(Br)3-C-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH3. I hope that makes some sense for you :)

What about oxalic acid? :p

Anyway, CH3COOH can only have one form where it is an alkanoic acid and that's ethanoic acid and so, the 1 is omitted.
