Just for research, not for pratical significance~
I know in USA, several years ago, Nanotech is a quite hot area, but now more scientists realise that nanotech is not that valuable as thought before...
So, we can predict nanotech will go down gradually in the next 10 years, if no big discover in this research field...

i agree, the nanotech industry hasn't really proven a massive commercial success, so as a result the money's not there for heaps of research opportunities.

in terms of the degree at unsw, it's basically a really broad science degree - you'll be doing physics, chem and bio in first/second years - so if you have a particular aversion to one of those, then perhaps just consider a BSc where you have more control over subject choice.

However an engineering degree is more likely to land you a highly paid job in australia after graduation (massive generalisation, i know...)
