Hi guys, just need a little help in figuring out my preferences...

I've always been a business/commerce oriented person, so looking at either a comm or eco degree which I should get into with a 97 atar. I know that most people do commerce and in that way is attractive as it is I guess more of a safer option. However I'm not really 100% interested in doing the standard finance/accounting majors, particularly as I've always been more of a writer than a mathematician at school, and I'm ultimately really unsure of which majors I will do (not doing marketing or any crap like that haha.) This brings me to an economics degree, which seems quite appealing as it was probably my favourite HSC subject (I would probably do an economics major in commerce anyway, so why not just do an eco degree?) So yeah im really quite unsure - I know commerce is definitely the popular option, and I almost feel obliged to go with it as it fills up my atar an extra half a dozen points, but eco does seem logical. Only problem with eco is that it is a social science and Sydney Uni recognises it as part of the arts department - not sure that really matters but it seems to take the credibility out of the degree if you know what I mean. I guess commerce does provide a bit more flexibility over the economics degree though.

For the choice of uni, I'm genuinely stuck between USYD and UNSW. USYD is closer and does have the Harry Potter effect going for it, although I have heard that its not as good as it looks on the outside and is a bit run down in areas. Also, USYD seems to have better social aspects for me. However, Ive heard heaps that UNSW has the edge on USYD for business and they pride themselves on their connections to top employers. Ultimately, I guess you probably can't go wrong with either degree or uni but any feedback is highly appreciated!!

Cheers

Do what you like but don't think HSC subjects are going to be like Uni. It will be very different to what you think.

AAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

yeah right

UNSW has the best social life by far - we, UNSW, actually have a full O-Week, not a three day excuse that Sydney Uni call an "O-Week"

All you seem to do here is tell everyone how "UNSW has the best social life". On the internet. And you've posted this stuff quite a bit recently as well. Ironic, really...

OP if you do a comm degree, one of your majors can be economics so just keep that in mind. Also if you end up doing BComm at USYD, you'll be able to apply for IPP.
