Need to know about nursing at syd uni? (1 Viewer)

just from my general knowledge there are many job opportunities at the moment for nurses as they're in the national priority category alongside teaching.
Well you can obviously work in a hospital and then specialise in various areas of nursing such as paediatrics, oncology, intensive care, burns units, surgical nursing etc. With the masters of nursing I believe that would give you a more authoritarian role, such as being matron of an entire ward, and doing alot of management type roles, but don't quote me on that.
You could also work in doctor surgeries just as an all-rounder nurse, and also in retirement facilities to work within aged care.
I'm not sure what a bachelor of science could offer alongside nursing. Maybe you could get involved in some sort of research? I'm not sure about that one.
As far as I know, the pay isn't terribly exciting. Take a look at the NSWhealth site for more details on that http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/nursing/salary.html. Also trawl that website for more details about nursing categories.
If you wanted to just be involved in nursing, I'd suggest you just do a straightforward nursing course. Obtaining your nursing degree doesn't really matter where it came from. The country is in a shortage and can't afford to pick favourites. UTS has a good nursing course which leads to high numbers of employment after graduation, so does UWS.

if you mean usyd nursing course it was closed down lik 5 or so years ago
and was transferred to UTS

There is a nursing course at syd uni however it is combined with another bachelor degree which u must undertake for the first year before u start the nursing counterpart.
Having the masters as a new grad nurse wouldnt prove to be that great as you wouldnt have any actual experience except for the clinical you would have done like other students at other nursing uni's.
Incomes in the nursing sector.... underpaid and undervalued... But if you go back and get post-grad qualifications or in this case if u have a masters down the track you can expand your opportunities e.g. becoming a Clinical nurse specialist/consultant, or a NUM etc
