I know there are a few people around wondering what they'll need to know for the I.T exam. This is hard, for me as well, for there isn't actually any excel book (yet) and getting it in sept wont help your trials. My teacher gave me a list of topics that I'd need to know. Seeing as it's a VET I.T course I'd think that all the schools would be teaching the same thing. Here's what you've suppose to have learnt:
Working effectively in an I.T environment
Occupational Health and Safety procedures
Operate computing packages - applications desktop
Operate computer hardware
Design organisational documents using commercial computing packages
Integrate commercial computing packages
Communicate in the workplace
maintain equipment and conusmables
connect harware peripherals
Install software applications
maintain system integirty

And here is what he said that we needed to know for the trials:
Workplace communications, including methods of communications
Telephone techniques
OH&S esp relationg to computer workstations and workplace safety issues
Operate computer hardware
workplace discrimination eps direct and indirect discrimination, what to do if discrimination occurs?
Backing up of data, maintain system integrity
Writing of memos, faxes, and business letters
Maintaining equipment and consumables
word processing
spreadsheets
databases including SQL (structured query language eg like, and, or, <, >)
If you have anything else please add!

its all pretty much common sense in IT.. also for ur trials make sure u know all the ports.. ie USB, AGP etc.. they usually throw in a question asking u to name the ports shown.. and perhaps what they are used for.

If anyone needs any notes on any of the particular units let me know, our teacher has been creating booklets for every unit.. and also made a hsc revision booklet.. hehe hes got way too much spare time.
