seems like a fair deal to me. the mobo to support all that shouldnt cost you more than arround $170.
If i was you id try and get a sony Dual Layer DVD burner - they are more expensive, but you are almots garunteed of the finished burn working anywhere. thats just my experience. and besides.. sony was one of the inventors of the DVD!
Lite-on for CD burners are good value though!
That CPU price is extremely good (its even lower than my wholesale distributor price!!).

not from my experience they arent - some noticeable quality differences on *some* burns. I must admit though.. we ahve a lite on dvd burner.. we havent used it to burn dvds.. but i have seen comparisions between sony burnt DVDs and compeiting (non DVD founding) brands.

One of them is just a rebadge of the other - I have a suspicious feeling Sony are rebadged Lite-on's too, because you can flash some Sony single layer drives with some firmware designed for Lite-ons to turn them into dual layer drives. Sony's not the only brand as well, seem to remember.

It's cheaper to get 2 6600GT in SLI than a 6800 Ultra, and it should have better performance. The Asus Extreme version is one of the best 6600GT cards.

To be honest I think you'd be better off with 2 x 160gb drives, rather than one 1 x 250. More of a liability, and slower than a smaller driver.

Also, I've got Seagate and I'm unimpressed with their long term reliability. Go Western Digital or Maxtor.

My advice would be to get a combo driver. One that reads and writes both CDs and DVDs. Pioneer or Liteon would be my recommendations for this.

i'm sorry but that give the impression that AMD chips are inferior without justification.

sure they have had reliability problems, but for some tasks they have much better value. So the choice must be made based on the proposed purpose of the system.

Personal preference. I don't go as far as to put my allegiance with Intel over all else. They may in fact be worse than AMD. Comes down to what you like using.

Didn't the prescotts run hotter than the thunderbirds even? 100w of power the Prescott's demanded, so at a stage intel generated lots of heat

contrary to belief, AMD's and Intel's are both great, as mednez says its personal preference.

if i had my way id go for the IBM Power PC chip - but that wont be happening any time soon - although it will be the processor in the next gen xBox.. and look what apple are doing with the PowerPC's!!!
I've got an AMD chip in this computer - its good, but i think that an Intel chip would have been better. I'll have 2 get rid of my two old hard drives (40gb each) and replace it with a 80gb SATA drive along side my 120GB SATA.. and then see how the processor performs at processing music and all the sorta stuff. Then ill be able 2 make a more valid comment but at the moment im on fairly neutral ground.

I just hope the cell chip isn't overhyped and acctually delivers, then replacese x86
