seems to be a mistake in the extension 2 Q14cii

solutions from wolframalpha:

so the question should have had a ± inside the square root

but nesa's solution correct

just the question wrong

ngl the extension 1 paper looks almost identical to the current syllabus, it looks like they basically just took a bunch of previous hsc questions and put them together

ext 2 at least looks slightly different, i don't think they would have specifically asked about triangle medians before, cauchy schwarz was in there, 14c is a bit different from what they usually ask but could be in the old syllabus, squeeze theorem explicit mention. tbh the changes are pretty insignificant though

just like the hsc mgs, they did not show the working for the mc. there are also several or otherwise questions, and no indication whatsoever in the nesa solutions what are the or otherwise methods.

so i think we need to redo some questions, showing working for the mc and the or otherwise methods.

here are the or otherwise questions

advanced: Q31bii
extension 2: Q11cii, Q12dii, Q14ci, Q14cii

so no surprise there are no or otherwises for the standard papers, but quite surprising there are none for the extension 1, as many past extension 1 papers have or otherwises.

or otherwises have a long history in the past papers going right back to 1916. that they are still in these sample papers is an indication they are not going away any time soon.

although nesa don't publish working for mc for hsc papers, there are several published ones that do.

many of the sample paper mc questions have come from past hsc papers, so the task can be significantly reduced.

i found most of the sources, most copy-pasted from past hsc, some changed slightly

the ones with the ? will require new solutions obviously, but perhaps the changed ones too
